The Future of History with Peter Worsley?
In the rapidly amalgamating world of entertainment content where television seems to be one of the last places viewers are turning for programming, Peter Worsley’s mission is to exist on the cutting edge. Managing Director of Licensing for Eagle Rock Entertainment and Producer of HISTORY 2006’s session Out of the Box: Producing History for New Platforms, Worsley foresees the many opportunities in new distribution platforms for history producers. “The greatest opportunity will be opening up producer's back catalogues for distribution direct to consumers via broadband” says Worsley. “Films that would be too narrow for traditional broadcast will also now have an outlet.”
But the creation of new distribution platforms will not be without challenges to history programming – a genre that does not necessarily possess the inherent glitz and glam of other programming markets. “The challenge will be making original programming that is relevant to new platforms such as mobile - and finding ways to make money out of them” he continues. ”Producers are going to have to find new ways of new telling stories on new media platforms.”
